Reclaim Your Saturdays with a Cleaning Schedule

By Shannon Carter, Editor, Macaroni Kid Pensacola October 5, 2022

Throughout the years the evolution of cleaning technology has advanced, making housework duties more manageable. Dishwashers outperformed good ol’ fashioned hand washing, the roomba upstaged the cordless vacuum, and the pooper scooper was defeated by the greater ingenuity of a litter robot.

Despite the evolution of cleaning advancements, one thing remains the same, the house still isn’t going to clean itself!

Between work, the kids’ music classes, grocery shopping, and social activity planning… cleaning the house is the least desired adult undertaking. Like most things in life, there’s varying levels of social acceptability…cleaning social acceptability.

The first tier of sanitation satisfaction pertains to the must do weekly responsibilities of laundry and dishes. Then there’s the “family is coming to visit, house scrub down.” This second tier of cleaning is a hygienic surface clean: manicure the lawn, clean the baseboards, dust the ceiling fans, yadda yadda yadda. The last and most grueling level of cleaning is the “gotta get that rent deposit back, deep clean.” This one speaks for itself. Housework is an endless loop, a never-ending cycle, and it’s likely to be stealing your Saturdays!

Sometimes something’s got to give and that means allowing an item on your to do list to be crossed off by a professional. Other times it means creating a daily, weekly, and monthly routine cleaning schedule. It’s possible to tackle all “tiers” of cleaning in a month by having set days each week for every task. For example, every day the dishwasher is loaded/unloaded, every other day the floors are swept, every Thursday you meal plan, clean the bathrooms and change the sheets. Every second Saturday of the month you mop, and dust, etc.

Breaking up the inevitability of cleaning on a schedule allows you to tackle all “tiers” of cleaning, every month, hassle free. Give a cleaning schedule a try and if at the end of the day, the clean dish load still has some grime, throw it back in the dishwasher one more time.
